DEBORAH GERRISH is the author of four collections of poems, Indeed Jasmine (2022), Light in Light (2017), The Language of Paisley (2012), and the chapbook, The Language of Rain (2008). Her poems have appeared in Adanna, Lips, Journal of New Jersey Poets, The Stillwater Review, Ararat, Exit 13, The Practicing Poet, A Constellation of Kisses, The Crafty Poet, The Strategic Poet, The Paterson Literary Review where her poems have received Editor’s Choice and Honorable Mention in the Allen Ginsberg Poetry Awards, and various other magazines and anthologies. Her poem, “The Wounded Angel” and “Where the Soul Speaks Out in Conversation” were both finalists in Tiferet poetry contests. Her poem, “Tulip Farm” is one of the featured poems in “Moving Words 2023,” an annual international collaborative project between writers, actors, and filmmakers. She has been interviewed on radio stations in Colorado and Florida and featured on U-tube. She was awarded an Edward Fry Fellowship for scholarship research work on poetry process at Rutger’s University, received an Ed.D. in Literacy Education and holds an MFA in Poetry from Drew University. She taught English for over thirty years in NJ public schools. She teaches poetry at Fairleigh Dickinson University, gives readings, and participates in writing conferences. She lives in Murray Hill with her husband, Jim and cat, Isaac.
